A helicopter crashed in Marion County Sunday morning killing the pilot and critically injuring the passenger.

Officials said it was a freelance heli-logging crew from Oregon that was transporting timber for Cardin Forest Products of South Pittsburg.

The helicopter went down shortly before 8 a.m. in the Fiery Gizzard community.

The passenger was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center and was listed in serious condition in the burn unit.

The logging is at the foot of Monteagle Mountain.
