UNDER WATER RECOVERY

March 30, 2002, 56 miles off the shore from Savannah GA.  The Eurocopter AS355 was flying with one passenger to a Navy observation Platform when it crashed into the ocean.  A US Marine CH-46 helicopter was dispatched to assist when they crashed into the ocean.  Unfortunately 2 individuals perished in the A355 and 1 in the CH-46.
AAR&S was dispatched to locate and recover the AS355.  We found the CH-46 using our sonar and underwater camera then locate the AS355 a quarter mile southwest of the Navy Platform in 86 feet of water.  We raised the AS 355 and brought it back to our facility allowing the NTSB to complete the investigation into the cause of the crash.
