                                                    MICRONESIA

May 13, 2001 - Pohnepi Micronesia - A Boeing 727 Cargo, loaded with 16,000 pounds of cargo and a crew of three. The 727 arrived at Pohnepi after sundown, performing a night visual approach over water.  Descended below field level and struck a seawall.  The aircraft continued down the runway when the right main landing gear separated and then the left main landing gear collapsed.  The aircraft slid approximately 4000 ft. coming to a stop on the side of the only runway on the island.
The Pohnepi Airport is a vital link to Honolulu, Guam and other Micronesia States.  Therefore, it was extremely important to have the aircraft removed to reopen the airport.  AAR&S was able to remove possible salvage parts and ship back to its facilities.  The airframe was cut down and removed from the airport.
AAR&S was able to eliminate any further possible liability exposure to the Insurance Company as well as recover the useable parts.
FOOTNOTE:    The island is small and very beautiful and the people are extremely pleasant.  A special thanks to the Airport Manager an his Emergency Personnel.
