                                                  SAINT BARTS

January 9, 2000 - St Barthelmey Cedex "St. Barts", a beautiful island in the French West Indies.  The airport at St. Barts has only one approach. Flying down the side of a mountain to a short 1638 runway with a beach at the other end.  This is definitely not to be tried by the novice pilot.

The Beechcraft King Air 99 made the steep approach down the mountain but failed to slow his decent for the landing, braking the right main gear causing the aircraft to spin off the runway into the trees and shrubs.  No one was seriously injured but the aircraft closed a road to the hotel.

AAR&S was able to disassemble the aircraft and using the largest truck on the island move it to the port for its return to the US and the facilities of Atlanta Air.
